The MCOCA provides special powers to the enforcement agencies to tackle organised crime syndicates.
Khan, a resident of Northeast Delhi’s Welcome, was arrested in February in connection with a drug smuggling case and was also questioned over the killings of a Farsh Bazar businessman and a Greater Kailash gym owner last year. According to sources in the police, apart from Khan, Baba, and his associates, Anwar and Samir Baba, were also booked under the MCOCA last week. The Special Cell will seek Khan’s custody for further questioning next week, sources added.
During the investigation, sources said, the police found that she was operating Baba’s gang—Baba is an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang—while he was in prison. A pistol was also recovered from her residence, sources added.
Baba was arrested in 2020 and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with several cases, including murder and extortion. He married Zoya in 2017 while he was out on bail, sources said.
Last year, Baba was arrested from Tihar Jail in connection with the murder of gym owner Nadir Shah in South Delhi’s Greater Kailash.
Baba, whose real name is Ashim, was born in 1982 in Indira Vihar in Gokulpuri. His family hails from Aghapur village in Gajraula, near Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. He allegedly orchestrated the 2016 Karkardooma court shooting to kill Chenu Pehelwan. In 2019, another case under MCOCA was registered against Baba and the Abdul Nasir gang.
