(Express Archive Photo)The Delhi Police Sunday arrested four people, including a woman and a receiver of stolen items, from Rajasthan in connection with a robbery of jewellery worth Rs. 50-60 lakh in the Capital’s Kailash Colony area.
The case came to light on February 21 when the police received a PCR call reporting a burglary at an H-Block residence in Kailash Colony. The complainant informed the police that he and his family had been away in Surajkund, and when they came back at around 3.15 pm, they discovered their flat’s main door broken and valuables worth several lakhs missing.
During the investigation, forensic experts and crime teams inspected the crime scene. CCTV footage analysis showed four individuals arrived at the residence in the afternoon on February 21. Two suspects entered the house after breaking the door, while the other two kept watch outside, said police. At 1.34 pm, all four were seen fleeing.
Through technical surveillance and intelligence gathering, the suspects were identified as Pardhan, Ranjeet Singh, Babulal and Prakash, all residents of Ajmer in Rajasthan. The police traced them to their village and arrested Pardhan, 34, Bhanwar Singh, 60, a 53-year-old woman, and Ramavtar Soni, 28. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to the crime, said the police.
“They had stolen Rs 3 lakh in cash and gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 50-60 lakh from there and ran away to their native place in Ajmer. On February 26, they distributed the stolen jewellery among themselves and some jewellery items were given to Bhanwar Singh and the woman. Bhanwar Singh and the woman sold 125 gram of gold jewellery to Ramavatar Soni. Some of the jewellery items were hidden by Bhanwar Singh and the woman in a hole in the fields at their village, which were recovered on their instance,” said Ankit Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South.
According to the police, the arrested have prior criminal records. Pardhan has been named in a burglary case registered at Greater Kailash 1 Police Station, and was declared a proclaimed offender in December 2023.
The police said they are continuing their investigation to arrest three of the remaining accused and recover the remaining stolen property.
