Sadar Bazar Fire News Highlights: A fire which broke out at a multi-storey building housing multiple shops in the Sadar Bazaar area on Saturday afternoon was brought under control by 5:55 pm. According to PTI, a firefighter sustained injuries battling the fire, which began on the first floor of the building.

Initially, 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. As the flames spread and the operation intensified, 15 more fire tenders were deployed, taking the total to 27. However, the cause of the fire is not yet known and the detailed investigation is underway.

Weather today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms and light rainfall across Delhi on Saturday. The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to settle around 35 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Kanwar Yatra: Around 15 major routes in Delhi are expected to face traffic congestion as over 20 lakh ‘Kanwars’ are expected to flock to the capital as part of the annual pilgrimage that began on Friday, a Delhi Traffic Police advisory stated. The authorities have also imposed traffic diversions for heavy vehicles in the NCR region. The advisory will be in place till July 23, when the pilgrimage of Shiva devotees concludes, said the police. Here are the routes that are expected to face traffic congestion.

Delhi Jal Board faces Rs 1.42 lakh crore unpaid dues

Water Minister Parvesh Verma has said the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is staring at an unprecedented financial crisis, with pending water bills around Rs 1.42 lakh crore across the city, reports PTI.

The DJB, which is in charge of supplying water, has been facing a major cash crunch. "In three categories, we have identified that the commercial category has the highest amount of dues Rs 66,000 crore followed by the government category Rs 61,000 crore and then domestic Rs 15,000 crore," said Verma.

Delhi cops trace kidnapper in Mumbai after 25 years

Eight people, including a one-year-old baby, were injured when a four-storey building collapsed in the Welcome area of northeast Delhi on Saturday morning, with a few still feared to be trapped under the rubble, an official told news agency PTI.

People who are injured in the building collapse include 10 members of a family who lived in the building and a few others who were near it, they said.

The injured have been rushed to the hospital, and the rescue operation is still underway.

A senior police officer said, "Around 7.04 am on Saturday, we received information at Welcome Police Station regarding the collapse of a four-storey building near Idgah, Welcome. When the police team reached the spot, they found that three storeys of the building had collapsed." "So far, eight injured persons have been rescued -- seven have been shifted to JPC Hospital and one to GTB Hospital for treatment," he added. (PTI)

Watch: Gurgaon traffic police help avert tragedy as truck carrying chemicals falls 25-30 ft off Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, catches fire

A major disaster was averted in Gurgaon on Friday after a truck carrying chemical containers veered off the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, plummeting 25-30 feet and bursting into flames.

Swift action by the traffic police and the fire brigade ensured the situation did not escalate, though the truck and its cargo were destroyed, a police spokesperson said.

The incident occurred around 1 pm near the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) office at Bhondsi when a truck driver en route from Jaipur to Gurgaon lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn. Read the full story.

17-year-old boy drowns in a pond at Delhi's New Friends Colony park, dies

A 17-year-old boy drowned in a pond of a park in New Friends Colony area in Delhi, the police said.

Police said that a PCR call was received in the evening on July 9. 

“The drowned boy was taken out with the help of divers and immediately sent to the nearest medical facility, the Holy Family hospital, where he was declared "brought dead" on his medico-legal certificate,” DCP (South East) Hemant Tiwari said.

 

According to the police, the deceased boy, Salman, was from Meerut and was on a visit to his father, who works as a labourer in Khijrabad area of South East Delhi.

 

“Salman had come from Meerut to his father house, who is labourer in Khijrabad and lives in rented accommodation. The boy went willingly for swimming in the Water Fountain Pond situated in Ashoka Park,” DCP Tiwari said.

Many feared trapped as building collapses in Delhi’s Seelampur, rescue ops underway

A four-storey building collapsed in the Welcome area of Northeast Delhi on Saturday morning, officials said.

The police informed that even as three people have been rescued and rushed to the nearby hospital, several people may be trapped beneath the rubble.

A total of seven fire tenders have been rushed to the site, the Delhi Fire Services informed The Indian Express.

A rescue operation involving multiple agencies is currently underway.

An analysis by non-profit Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) has revealed that Byrnihat on the Assam-Meghalaya border was the most polluted city in India in the first half of 2025, while national capital Delhi, Hajipur in Bihar, Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Gurgaon in Haryana were among the top five most polluted.

As per the national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS), 40 ug/m3 is the prescribed limit for PM 2.5 levels.

Most days in Delhi (63) were in the moderate category, which reflects air quality concentration in the 61-90 ug/m3 range. For 29 days, the city’s air quality was in the very poor quality category.

Radhika Yadav had everything going for her.

At 25, the state-level tennis player was gradually climbing up the ranks internationally in the doubles category, was coaching at a private academy, and was individually teaching high-profile clients.

However, her father, Deepak Yadav (54) — according to the police and residents of her Gurgaon neighbourhood — allegedly could not stand her success as he was being “taunted” for relying on his daughter’s income.

At 10.30 am on Thursday, at their residence in Gurgaon’s Sushant Lok-II, he allegedly took his licensed revolver and fired five shots — three of them hit Radhika, killing her.

His wife, who had a fever, was resting in another room at the time.

According to the police, they were informed by a private hospital at 11.30 am that a young woman had died of bullet injuries. When a police team got there, they found the woman’s uncle, Kuldeep — but not her parents.

Narcotics Control Bureau moves Delhi HC against trial court order on furnishing cell location data of investigating officers in drug trafficking case

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has moved the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on a trial court order directing it to preserve and disclose the Cell Location ID charts and mobile data of its investigating officers (IOs).

While the agency submitted that such disclosure “poses a serious threat to operational confidentiality, national security and ongoing investigation”, Justice Ravinder Dudeja on Tuesday sought a response from a drug trafficking case accused, on whose application the trial court had issued the directions.

The high court has posted the matter next for consideration on October 9.

The accused, Naveen Fogat, was booked in July 2023 in a pan-India probe into parcels of LSD, a hallucinogenic drug, seized from a courier facility. Fogat was allegedly involved in shipping the LSD and drug trafficking.
