The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has set up more fare collection gates, separate entry and exit points, and more luggage scanning machines and frisking points at Sarojini Nagar station on the pink line for the passengers’ convenience.

Gate number 1, near the Sarojini Nagar market, will be for entry only, and 14 automatic fare collection gates have now been placed at the entrance. The gate was earlier used for both entry and exit with six fare collection gates. The exit from the station will now be through gate number 2.

According to a communication from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the “remodelling” is likely to reduce the waiting time for entry into the station.

Four door frame metal detectors have been installed for women and two for men. The DMRC said special arrangements have been made for the entry and exit of differently-abled commuters.

According to the DMRC, the Sarojini Nagar station is the busiest on the pink line, with an average daily footfall of around 38,000 on weekdays and 65,000 on weekends.

The communication issued by Anuj Dayal, principal executive director, corporate communications, DMRC, stated, “The footfall of the station is steadily increasing, especially after the opening of the markets post-Covid and touched the highest level of 83,000 in November 2022. In fact, the station’s footfall has increased almost six times since its opening in August 2018.”

The communication added that the remodelling was found to be necessary since crowds at the entry and platforms were a concern for DMRC, with the entry of passengers having to be stopped sometimes during peak hours to regulate movement.
