The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is building the longest yet span for a Metro bridge, passing over an operating railway line near Okhla in the city,DMRC officials said. The bridge will be completed in time for the Commonwealth Games.

“The DMRC had to use such a long span – 100 metres- over the Northern Railways track as four railways lines pass below the bridge,” a DMRC spokesperson said. “The Delhi Metro is employing Cantilever Construction (CLC) technology so that the rail traffic below the bridge is not hampered.”

The bridge, between the Okhla and Jasola Metro stations, will have a total length of 250 metres and is divided into three spans, the DMRC spokesperson said. “While the middle span will be of 100 metres, the other two spans will be 75 metres each.”

The railway track below this bridge links the New Delhi railway station with Agra and Mathura on the Mumbai main line. “The Delhi Metro had earlier constructed a bridge over a Railways line near Pragati Maidan, where the length of the main span was 93 metres,” the DMRC official said. The bridge is part of the 20.16 km-long under-construction Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor.
