The man, identified by the police as 39-year-old Anand Kumar, died by suicide after jumping in front of a train heading towards Vishwavidyalaya at Udyog Bhawan metro station. According to police officials, a PCR call alerted authorities at Rajiv Chowk Police Station about the incident.
On inspecting CCTV footage, police confirmed that the man died by suicide by leaping onto the tracks moments before the arrival of the metro train on platform 2 of Udyog Bhawan.
Kumar is a resident of Northwest Delhi’s Mukundpur. His wife, Preeti, told authorities that Kumar was formerly employed as a painter but had not been going to work lately after being diagnosed with cancer.
Kumar’s body has been transferred to RML Hospital and inquest proceedings under CrPC Section 174 are underway, said officials.
According to Delhi Metro officials, the incident caused a 20-minute delay in services. “Train services were briefly regulated during this period, and normal train movement was restored at 12.04 pm,” the officials said.
