As Delhi continues to reel under heatwave conditions, recording a maximum temperature of 52.9 degree Celsius, Wednesday also saw the capital’s fire services getting the highest numbers of calls in a day since Diwali.

According to Delhi Fire Chief Atul Garg, the fire services received 220 calls on May 29, of which 183 were fire calls.

On Wednesday, 16 cars were gutted after a fire engulfed a parking lot in East Delhi’s Mandawali area. “The fire spread to 16 vehicles (four-wheelers), two of which were completely gutted, making their registration number untraceable,” said Garg.

The police suspected that the incident took place after some bushes and kindling ignited in the vicinity.
