Delhi govt, MCDs file affidavits in Delhi High Court

The affidavits were in response to a PIL filed by a Delhi resident, who had approached the court for orders to both parties to pay salaries to the employees

With the city reeling under strikes by various departments of the municipal corporations, the battle between the civic bodies and the Delhi government continues with both sides filing affidavits in the Delhi High Court over the release of funds.

The affidavits were in response to a PIL filed by a Delhi resident, who had approached the court for orders to both parties to pay salaries to the employees. The plea will be heard Tuesday before the bench of the chief justice.

In its affidavit, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation claimed that while salaries of safai karamcharis had been paid up to December 2015, salaries of Group A, B, C and D employees and regular pensions had not been paid for three months — a total of Rs 217 crore. It also claimed that there was a “deficit” of over Rs 627 crore in the funds released by the government since 2012.

The North corporation, in its affidavit, said it has “at no stage any intention to delay the salaries” of any employee, and that the salaries of safai karamcharis had been released.

Countering the allegations, the government affidavit claimed it has “extended complete support that is legally and financially viable to the three corporations,” and has said it was the corporations which had “failed” to collect revenue from the various “internal” sources available to them.
