Delhi Fire Services receives 166 calls on Diwali; over 10 fire outbreaks in Gurgaon

No casualties reported; over 25,000 personnel at 23 vulnerable locations to douse fires in narrow lanes in Delhi.

The Delhi Fire Services received 166 calls related to fire incidents on the day of Diwali, out of which 22 were those related to firecrackers, officers said on Sunday.

Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg, however, said there has been a decrease in the number of calls compared to last year’s 208 calls.

According to data, the most number of calls were received between 10 pm and 11 pm, particularly from areas such as Shastri Nagar, Sultanpur and East of Kailash.

The DFS received 195 calls of fire-related incidents on Saturday and Sunday together, officials said.

The department had deployed over 25,000 personnel at 23 vulnerable locations to douse fires in narrow lanes in Delhi. Additionally, bikes and SUVs were deployed for quick action, officers said.

Meanwhile in Gurgaon, over 10 incidents of fire were reported on Sunday during Diwali celebrations, officials said, adding that there were no casualties.

According to officials, a fire brigade vehicle was rushed to Sushant Lok B Block following information of a fire outbreak on the fourth floor at 9.07 pm.

“The fire-tenders extinguished the fire in 30 minutes. An almirah was damaged while they managed to save other belongings and the house,” said an officer.

In the second incident at Sector 17C, a fire brigade vehicle was dispatched around 10 pm near MDI College. However, the fire was doused by the residents before the officials reached the spot.

In a similar incident in Greenwood City in sector 46, the residents doused the blaze at a house on Diwali night before the fire-tenders arrived.

In Sector 52, officials doused the fire that broke out in a temple on the first floor of a house. While returning they found a Maruti WagonR car in flames in an empty plot in Sector 52 at 10.50 pm. No casualties were reported in the Sector 29 area, officials said.

Under the Udyog Vihar fire station, four cases of fire were reported from areas such as Palam Vihar and Ram Chowk in Sector 20 phase 1. Sohna, Farrukhnagar and Pataudi stations also received a call each on Diwali.
