Star Power

Doordarshan is all set to induct some star power into its popular women’s empowerment show, “Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon”. The weekly show, made in association with the Population Foundation of India, deals with issues like education of the girl child, violence against women and empowerment and is currently into its second season. Actor Farhan Akhtar has agreed to become the sutradhar of the show.

The Intervention

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has stepped in to resolve the crisis in the Assam Congress. The state is heading for elections next year and the party is on the verge of a split. Few days ago, two senior leaders, Hiranya Bora and Diganta Kalita, quit the party. Rahul has called rebel leader Himanta Biswa Sarma and CM Tarun Gogoi for a meet on Wednesday.

Another Vacancy

Even AS key appointments like CBSE chairperson and NCERT director continue to remain pending, many months after they fell vacant, the HRD Ministry has yet another important position to fill — the commissioner of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Santosh Kumar Mall has been given additional charge after the retirement of G S Bothyal, in whose tenure schools were told to observe ‘Good Governance Day’ on December 25 last year.

Yoga Book

After successfully entering the Guinness book of records, the government is now planning to come out with a 300-page coffee table book showcasing the first International Yoga Day. What is different about the book is that it will have 12-15 pop-up pictures of Yoga asanas.
