The Delhi Police is likely to accord ‘Z’ category security to BJP’s Rekha Gupta, chosen as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, official sources said on Wednesday.
As per the ‘Yellow Book’ of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in which guidelines for security arrangements for VIPs and VVIPs are laid down, a ‘Z’ category protectee gets around 22 personnel including PSOs, escorts, watchers, and around eight static arm guards.
Former chief minister Atishi was also given ‘Z’ category security by the Delhi Police on the directions of the MHA. During her 15-year tenure, former Congress CM Sheila Dikshit also had ‘Z’ category security.
A source said the ‘Z’ category cover may be given to Gupta soon after she takes oath at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday afternoon. Six Cabinet ministers will also take oath.
The source said local police have been deployed around her residence in Shalimar Bagh on Wednesday night but formal deployment of personnel will take place after the oath ceremony.
According to the protocol, Delhi’s chief minister is entitled to ‘Z’ category security, which can be enhanced after an assessment on the directions of the MHA, sources said.
AAP’s national convenor and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has ‘Z plus’ security cover, which was given based on his threat perception.
The security assessment of any state’s CM is done by security agencies based on threat perception.
