Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Minority Morcha visited the market in Delhi’s Jama Masjid area Wednesday to thank traders for supporting the Centre’s GST relief move, after which the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the BJP government of “pressuring” Delhiites to celebrate the reform.

Led by its president, Anish Abbasi, the BJP Minority Morcha interacted with shopkeepers and customers in the Jama Masjid area, as the party announced that the outreach was specifically for members of the Muslim community to gather their opinions.

Abbasi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision would “prove to be a relief and historic not only for the Muslim community but for the entire nation”.

“Minority traders across the country are thanking Modi ji. This decision has sparked new hope among small traders and consumers. Traders believe that this move will boost business, help control inflation, and provide direct benefits to the common people,” Abbasi said.

While BJP leaders described the market outreach as evidence of public gratitude towards the Centre, AAP said the “celebrations” were manufactured under pressure.

AAP Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar alleged that BJP ministers and government officials were “forcing” shopkeepers to celebrate the GST reforms. “Officials are threatening businesspersons and compelling them to celebrate. The Delhi CM, BJP ministers, and officials are roaming through every street, forcing people to celebrate,” Kumar said.

“When we do good work, people celebrate on their own. If this were truly such a good occasion, then the public would celebrate it themselves. But today, BJP members are forcing people to celebrate,” he added.
