Following its launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday, the BJP said it will fan out across Delhi to identify potential beneficiaries of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme over the coming days.

From carpenters to barbers, cobblers, potters, and blacksmiths among other such professionals under 18 separate categories of work, the scheme seeks to provide financial assistance to artisans engaged in traditional arts and skills.

Party sources said the programme was a significant component of the BJP’s pro-SC/ST/OBC pitch in the city for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The outreach will be led by the Delhi BJP’s OBC Morcha and be taken up, especially at unauthorised colonies and slum clusters where members of such communities live in large numbers.

“The outreach is not political at all. The Prime Minister has launched an initiative which has the benefits of lakhs of families settled in the Capital at its core and it is our duty to ensure that those eligible for it get the benefits due to them,” Delhi BJP OBC Morcha president Sunil Yadav said.

As part of its outreach related to the Rs 13,000 crore Central Government programme, the BJP seeks to identify individuals eligible for loans in the first phase, and then take up their cases for disbursal in the second phase of the programme.

“We will begin the process of reaching out to individuals in the city who are engaged in trades covered under the 18 categories, explain the provisions of the scheme to them and encourage them to sign up for it so they can take up their generational family trade,” Yadav added.
