In a first in India, Delhi airport expands self-drop baggage and check-in kiosks to all terminals

Approximately 50 Self Service Bag Drop units across Terminals 1 and 3 will now enable travellers to bypass check-in desks by printing their boarding passes and baggage tags at the Common Use Self Service (CUSS) kiosks.

Delhi airportThe DIAL has also introduced the Quick Drop Solution, which eliminates the need for a boarding pass or biometric validation, as these details are already encoded on the passenger's baggage tag.

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) on Tuesday expanded the Self Service Bag Drop (SSBD) facility to Terminals 1 and 2, making the Indira Gandhi International Airport the first in India and the second globally, after Toronto Airport, to implement the initiative. Last year in June, the Delhi airport had launched the facility for Terminal 3.

Approximately 50 SSBD units across Terminals 1 and 3 will now enable travellers to bypass check-in desks by printing their boarding passes and baggage tags at the Common Use Self Service (CUSS) kiosks. Upon reaching the SSBD unit, passengers can scan their boarding passes or use the biometric cameras, then drop their bags on the conveyor belt by completing the process in about a few minutes.

The DIAL has also introduced the Quick Drop Solution, which eliminates the need for a boarding pass or biometric validation, as these details are already encoded on the passenger’s baggage tag. This will further reduce the processing time from approximately one minute to just 30 seconds.

The CEO of DIAL, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce the Self Service Bag Drop Quick Drop Solution at Delhi Airport, setting a new standard for passenger convenience and efficiency in India. This initiative underscores our commitment to leveraging advanced technology to enhance the travel experience. The Quick Drop Solution not only speeds up the baggage drop process but also ensures a smoother, more enjoyable journey for our passengers. We are proud to be pioneers in this space and look forward to continuing to innovate in ways that benefit travellers.”

The Quick Drop Solution is currently available for passengers traveling with Air India, IndiGo, and Air India Express. Key features of the Quick Drop Solution include:

Bag Tag Collection from the Kiosk: Passengers collect and attach their bag tags at the CUSS kiosks upon arrival at the airport.

Bag Placement at SBD: Passengers place their bags onto the SBD conveyor belt.
