Death by Chocolate

Ruchi Chopra does not lead the way to temptation,she brings it home. With her new enterprise — a chocolate club — she intends to entice the Capital’s cacao lover to succumb to a weekly fix. “Chocolate makes everyone smile and is a language we all understand. We started the club to connect with chocolate lovers,” says Chopra,26,who runs ASAP: Any Surprise,Any Place,a Delhi-based company that specialises in customised surprises and personalised gifts,with seven offices across India. The chocolate club,which is part of the company,took off about a week ago and already has 84 members.

Each week,a member receives a box of chocolates with 18-20 pieces. “Along with it,there will be a complimentary box of cookies,brownies and chocolate coins. It will have new flavours or items that our chocolatiers are experimenting with,” says Chopra. For the first two weeks,you will get a variety of chocolates,brownies,cupcakes,cookies,chocolate fudge and more in the main parcel. “After tasting them,one can choose to have parcels of just chocolates or other items,even fruits dipped in chocolate. It is a flexible arrangement,” says Chopra,who sources her products from local chocolatiers.

The weekly hampers are divided into three categories. The basic hamper costs Rs 3,200 a month and consists of Indian chocolates. The next level of hampers is priced at Rs 5,200 a month and comprises Belgian and American chocolates. The most expensive hamper that contains only single-origin chocolates will cost you Rs 8,400 a month.

Chopra also customises each package according to the rates: the middle- and upper-level hampers have personalised wrapping paper and even a poem and a story. “The story will talk about the origins of chocolate and bring in the recipient’s name to make him a part of it,” says Chopra,who plans to start chocolate-tasting sessions for members in a few months. The membership can also be gifted to friends and family members.
