The Delhi Under-22 team’s 19-day tour Down Under, from July 6-23,left a trail of ups and downs but they ended on a high registering three consecutive victories over North Queensland at the Harrup Park Country Club.

Barring the final memories, among others, the time spent at the SCG Indoor Cricket Academy under the watchful eyes of former international cricketers like Barry Knight,Peter Phillipot,Doug Walters,Brian Taber and David Friedman came as invaluable for the players.

A bigger surprise awaited them in muggy Brisbane apart from lively green pitches-a slice of international cricket. The New Zealand A side,in Australia for the Emerging Players’ tournament, thumped Indian juniors twice on as many occasions, but facing the likes of Peter Fulton,Tim Southee and Chris Young must have been worth the losses. To add on,former India coach John Wright and former New Zealand international Mark Greatbatch were at hand for tips.

The DDCA team lost the opening Twenty20 to North Queensland XI,before bouncing back in style to win the next 50-over match against the same opponents courtesy left-arm spinner Darshan Kajania’s three-wicket haul (3/21) and identical half-centuries from openers Anshul Gupta (51) and Abhishek Kapoor (51). They again emerged victorious in the final T20. The best performer of the tour will find a place in the pool for Ranji Trophy representation for Delhi.

U-19 team win again
The DDCA Star won their third consecutive match of the UK tour with a 43-run win over St. Michael’s XI. Captain Milind Kumar’s all round performance (26 and 3/23) helped the visitors post a score of 141 runs for the loss of six wickets. In reply,St. Michael’s XI could only manage 98.

Brief scores: DDCA Star 141 for 6 in 30 overs (Unmukt Chand 27,Milind Kumar 26; Drough 2/9,Dropwell 2/14); St Michael’s 98 all out in 25.3 overs (Melday 29; Milind Kumar 3/23,Rishabh Saini 2/8,Vikas Mishra 2/14)
