Yadav added that the DTCP has suggested that the occupation certificate of the offenders be cancelled. (Representational/File) Salons, dieticians, customer care centres, corporate offices — establishments in Gurgaon running commercial activities from residential spaces are facing the heat, with the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) launching a crackdown on such units.
According to district town planner (enforcement) Manish Yadav, the DTCP’s enforcement branch sealed 19 floors at five plots in DLF Phase 1 on Golf Course Road. He added that more residential establishments, including those running commercial units at Sushant Lok, DLF Phase 1-5, South City among other places, will face action in the coming days.
The department had sent show cause notices to these units regarding the matter. It had also filed 100 complaints with police, out of which 50 have been converted into FIRs. However, the units did not furnish proper responses to the notices sent by the DTCP, said officials.
Yadav added that the DTCP has suggested that the occupation certificate of the offenders be cancelled. Moreover, the department has also asked the tehsildar concerned not to register sales deeds to those found guilty, their sewage connection be cancelled, and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has also been asked to stop their electricity connection.
“There is so much nuisance due to these activities in the city. When units that are meant to be residential in nature host such businesses, it defeats the purpose of issuing commercial licences as the department issues separate licences for different requirements,” Yadav said, adding that after the show cause notices were issued, the department did not receive proper responses, prompting them to take action.
“There are strict laws prohibiting the use of residential units for commercial purposes and these strict actions would make people aware of the consequences of not abiding by the government rules,” Yadav said.
