Cousins found dead, cops suspect alcohol poisoning

The bodies of two businessmen were recovered from a car parked near the Rohini-South police station in Outer Delhi late on Sunday night.

The bodies of two businessmen were recovered from a car parked near the Rohini-South police station in Outer Delhi late on Sunday night. Police also found a bottle of liquor,a packet of potato chips and a packet of biscuits in the vehicle, which has been sent for forensic examination.

According to police, preliminary investigations have revealed that the businessmen, who were cousins, died due to alcohol poisoning. Family members, however, alleged foul play claiming that the two were drugged.

Police said a passerby had informed them about the men lying unconscious in a white Hyundai Verna car, opposite the police station in Sector-3.

A team of officers rushed to the spot to find Suresh Kumar Gupta (34) lying near the boot of his car and his cousin Vijay Garg slumped on the passenger seat. Police said white discharge was noticed in the mouth and nose of both the men.

Police said the cousins were alive when they reached the spot, but they died on way to the Jaipur Golden Hospital. Police used Gupta’s car to drive the two men to the hospital.

The bodies were later taken to Ambedkar Hospital for a post mortem, where doctors said prima facie it appears that the two died of alcohol poisoning.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) P Karunakaran said,“No external injury marks were found on the bodies. We are investigating the matter under Section 174 of the CrPC.”

Gupta ran a welding business in Loha Mandi in Naraina, while Garg owned a dry fruits business in Khari Baoli.

Police said their investigations have revealed that Gupta had gone to Garg’s house around 8.30 pm to drop off his wife and two children. He picked up Garg and the two left for a relative’s house in Avantika. They were in Avantika for around 20 minutes and later were found near the police station.

Ashok Kumar, the victims’ uncle, said,“This is not the first time the two had gone drinking. How can police say that this is a case of alcohol poisoning? They were definitely drugged.”

At Garg’s house in Rohini, relatives and friends had gathered. “At 8.30 pm,they left the house. At 9.05,we got a call from the police saying the two were unwell. By the time we reached the hospital, they were no more,” said Sanjay,Garg’s brother-in-law.
