The Central Noida Police Saturday arrested a couple for allegedly kidnapping a one-and-a-half-year-old girl from Gaur City, a residential complex in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The couple, identified as Renu, 44, and Dinesh, 28, both of whom worked as sweepers in the area, are accused of abducting the child earlier in the week, according to local police officials.
The arrest followed a complaint filed on Tuesday by a resident of Yusufpur Chak Saberi, who reported that her daughter had been taken by the couple. “The complainant said that both Renu and Dinesh, who work as sweepers at 14G Avenue, Gaur City, took away her daughter to an unknown location without informing her,” said Shakti Mohan Awasthy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central Noida.
Following the complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to kidnapping. “We immediately formed eight teams to locate the accused,” Awasthy said. “CCTV footage from the victim’s residence showed Renu carrying the girl in her lap. We expanded our search to seven or eight districts across several states, including Rajasthan, Haryana, and Aligarh.”
Police officials explained that surveillance and local intelligence efforts revealed that the accused couple had a history of working at brick kilns. Acting on this information, police teams conducted searches at various kilns in Kasganj, Aligarh, and Ghaziabad. “We eventually discovered that the two had returned to Noida to collect their belongings. They were arrested from Amrapali River View Society in Bisrakh, and the infant was safely recovered from their possession,” Awasthy said.
During interrogation, Renu revealed details about her background. “She was married 25 years ago to Rajveer and was a resident of Nagla Jar village in Aligarh,” police said. “About four years ago, she met Dinesh at her brother-in-law’s wedding in Aligarh, and the two developed a relationship. Renu eventually left her husband and children to live with Dinesh in Noida, where they worked as sweepers at Gaur City’s 14G Avenue.”
According to the police, Renu had formed a relationship with the child’s mother, frequently visiting their home. As Renu had no children with Dinesh, the couple allegedly devised a plan to kidnap the infant and flee to Haryana, where they began working at a brick kiln.
