Three days after Shanno Khan died, allegedly after she was punished by a teacher at her MCD school in Bawana, the police are yet to receive the postmortem report, though doctors said it has been handed over.
On Monday,Dr Arun Aggarwal, dean of Maulana Azad Medical College, where the postmortem was conducted, said the report was handed over to the police on Sunday evening. But Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer),Atul Katiyar said they are yet to receive the autopsy report.
Sources said the postmortem suggests the girl, who was epileptic and had a history of lung and respiratory problems, developed complications after she was allegedly made to stand in the sun with bricks on her shoulders. The medical report suggests Shanno developed further medical complications because her mother had taken her to a maulvi first, allegedly to ward off evil spirits, sources said.
A delay in treatment could have led to her death,an officer said. He said the medical report suggests Shanno developed serious allergy to some pills she was given; the police suspect the maulvi gave her the pill. Manju, the teacher accused of meting out corporal punishment, has denied having punished Shanno. DCP Katiyar said she is at her home in Sonepat since Shannos death on Friday, and a police team has recorded her statement there.
Besides Manju, the police have so far recorded statements of Shannos parents. A police team visited the school and collected names and records of all girls in Class III who studied with Shanno, DCP Katiyar said. Their statements are being recorded.
Meanwhile,an MCD vigilance team formed to investigate the incident today sought more time to submit its report as it was unable to record statements of other students of the school.
