Cops to probe sexual harassment case again

Faridabad Police Commissioner P K Aggarwal has asked the DCP to investigate the allegations of sexual harassment raised by a former director of a Faridabad-based export house against her former boss.

Faridabad Police Commissioner P K Aggarwal has asked the DCP (Headquarters) to investigate the allegations of sexual harassment raised by a former director of a Faridabad-based export house against her former boss.

While the former employee of Shahi Exports (India) Pvt Ltd filed a police complaint against her boss and company vice-president J D Giri at the Sector 31 police station on August 23,last year,no FIR has been lodged yet.

“I approached DCP (Central) Shashank Anand, who after an inquiry asked ACP (Central) Tejveer to file an FIR on May 25. However, after the DCP’s transfer to Ambala, the file is gathering dust,” claimed the complainant.

Speaking on phone from Ambala,Anand said: “At the time I was transferred, the inquiry report was not completed. However,I had told the ACP (Central) to lodge an FIR and finish the investigations.” The ACP (Central) refused to comment, saying the issue was pending in court.

“So far the allegations levied by the complainant have not been proved. But since we have received a fresh complaint,I have directed the DCP (Headquarters) to investigate the matter without bias or prejudice and submit a report by the first week of July,” Aggarwal said on Thursday.

The complainant had initially approached the promoter of the company,Sarla Ahuja,on August 17,2009. She was advised to proceed on leave and was assured of prompt action against the accused. When she did not receive any correspondence from her employer, the woman put in a written complaint with the police, who refused to lodge an FIR.

Meanwhile, the company formed a grievance committee which held its first meeting on August 20. After a few days, four out of the seven committee members, including its chairperson Manjeet Saini, gave a written submission to the Station House Officer of Sector 31 giving a clean chit to Giri. Soon after, the woman was terminated from service,14 years after she joined the company as a receptionist.

Giri’s lawyer Ajay Sharma said his client resigned from the post soon after the management informed him about the complaint against him.

“My client was given a clean chit by both the company and the police. They found that the complainant was misusing her power and position. We have filed a defamation case against her and the matter is now pending in court.”
