In what the police said was a case of gang war,the man suspected to have killed Jaggu Pehelwan — the notorious contract killer who allegedly killed more than 100 people — was gunned down by unknown assailants in Ghaziabad’s Loni on Thursday.

The deceased Omi Pehelwan was wanted by the police for Jaggu alias Joginder’s murder. Joginder was killed in December 2012 and the police said he was the leader of a gang, which on his orders kidnapped scores of people for ransom,in many cases murdering them,in western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. “The attack was planned. A group of armed men on motorcycles arrived at Omi’s house. After killing him, they fled,” a senior police officer said.

The police suspect members of Joginder’s gang gunned down Omi. When the incident happened, two other men,Pawan and Jaideep, were with Omi. Pawan and Omi died in the attack, while Jaideep suffered serious injuries. He was admitted to a local hospital. “We have formed several teams to track down Jaggu’s previous gang members to trace the killers. We have a few leads but right now it’s too early to reveal details,” a police officer said.

Body found

The body of a youth was on Thursday found floating in the Hindon river in the Indirapuram area in Ghaziabad. The youth, who appeared to be in his 20s,bore several injury marks.
