Commonwealth Games officials are becoming alarmed over the viability of the event as corruption scandals and building delays dog preparations in New Delhi. With the opening ceremony due on October 3, the organising committee’s treasurer,Anil Khanna, quit recently. The New Delhi organising committee’s joint director general, and deputy director general were suspended. Commonwealth Games Committee chief executive,Mike Hooper, expressed concern at whether sporting venues will be completed in time for the Games. “We are in August and we are seeing a lot of incomplete venues,” Hooper said. “I don’t mean superficial stuff like leaking, broken tiles or landscaping. We are talking about concerns which are not ready for occupation,” he added.
