NEW DELHI: Two senior Delhi government officials Finance Secretary D M Spolia and Divisional Commissioner Vijay Deb were transferred on Thursday by the Union Home Ministry. Spolia has been sent to Arunachal Pradesh as Chief Secretary of the state,while Deb has been made the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi. As the Divisional Commissioner,Deb was handling various aspects of regularisation of unauthorised colonies in the city. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had been protesting against the unilateral decision of the Home Ministry on the transfer of Delhi government officials. She even met Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on August 29 over the issue.
Sajjan says he has been framed in 1984 riot case
NEW DELHI: The counsel for Congress leader Sajjan Kumar,facing trial in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case,has told the court that inconsistent statements were made by key witness and complainant Jagdish Kaur to frame his client in the case. Continuing final arguments in the case,Kumars counsel I U Khan told District Judge J R Aryan that Kaur in her affidavit to the Justice Nanavati Commission in 2000 had contradicted statements she made before.
CBI swindler remanded in judicial custody
NEW DELHI: A former CBI data entry operator,Prashant Kumar Jha,and three others who have been accused of swindling Rs 1.5 crore from the investigating agencys accounts have been sent to judicial custody till September 20. The CBI arrested Jha on August 24 for allegedly hacking into the pay and accounts office accounts and issuing several cheques worth more than Rs 1.5 crore. The others were accused of encashing the forged cheques.
