City Trilogy

M Pavan Kumar’s solo exhibition at Gallery Ragini in Lado Sarai,titled “Vizag. Bengaluru. Baroda.”,traces the 30-year-old’s journey through the three cities that played an important role in the formation of his artistic language. Born in Karnataka,Kumar did his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Andhra University,Visakhapatnam,and then moved to Bangalore to pursue his masters at the Department of Visual Arts. Finally,he settled in Vadodara. “My works can be seen as an investigation of myself. They can also be seen as journeys undertaken by me through various terrains. I have often felt a sense of withdrawal from my surroundings,” says Kumar,who has been working for the exhibition for over two years.

The works that comprise the show are not realistic,but they derive their references from the real world of objects. Watercolours depicting assemblage of various objects are placed alongside cityscapes and the mediums range from mixed media to graphite on paper.
