The body of a 62-year-old retired Delhi Police sub-Inspector was found inside his burnt car outside Japanese Park in Rohini’s Prashant Vihar on Tuesday noon,the police said. The deceased has been identified as Rajkumar Chawla,who retired in 2007. A police officer said a short-circuit looked like a probable cause of the fire in the Maruti Zen. According to the police,Chawla’s identity could only be established after the police checked the documents recovered from the car and the cell phone details. “He was returning from a relative’s house in Ghaziabad. The car’s central locking might have jammed when it caught fire,” said an officer.

Honour killing: Five of family in 14-day custody
NOIDA: Five family members of Sangeeta,a 20-year-old Noida girl who was allegedly murdered in Bulandshahr on July 14,were sent in 14 days judicial custody on Tuesday. “Sangeeta’s cousins Ramkumar,Surendra Singh and Suhi Ram,as well as her father Beer Singh,are still absconding. We are raiding the ancestral houses and other locations where they could have taken shelter. We hope to arrest them soon,” said Gautam Budha Nagar SSP Ashok K Singh. On Monday,the Noida police had arrested Sangeeta’s mother Ramwati and four others on charges of murdering the girl for secretly marrying outside her caste.

Bike brigade
Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal on Tuesday flagged off 200 new motorcycles of ‘chase and challan’ squad for checking traffic violations in the city. The squad now has 610 two-wheelers. The squad was set up in February 2008 with 210 motorcycles.
