3 held in Chitrakoot for ASI’s murder

LUCKNOW:Three persons were arrested in Chitrakoot,UP,on Sunday on the charge of murdering a Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector. ASI Jai Bhagwan Sharma (59) was shot at on Thursday night during a raid in a village of Chitrakoot district. ASI Sharma had gone to arrest Prem Chand,who is wanted for stealing Rs 8 lakh from his Delhi-based employer Mukesh Kumar Garg. Prem Chand’s brother Phool Chand,Ramesh and Ramesh Yadav were arrested by Chitrakoot police.

City to get 500 cusec water from Ganga canal

Muzaffarnagar:Shortage of water in Delhi and the NCR is expected to be reduced after the Uttar Pradesh government ordered the district authorities to release 500 cusec water from the Ganga Canal. “It has been decided that 500 cusecs of water will be discharged to supply drinking water to the Delhi Jal Board and prevent loss to the farmers in 19 district of UP,” A K Gupta,Chief Engineer of the Irrigation department,said.

HC upholds life term of four in murder case

New Delhi:The Delhi High Court has upheld a lower court verdict of rigorous life imprisonment to four persons for beating and stabbing to death a man over 11 years ago when he had tried to stop them from forcibly taking away pigs from his farm. “The appeals are without merit and are accordingly dismissed,” a bench of Justices Reva Khetrapal and Sunita Gupta said,while upholding the life term of Parveen,Anil,Gulab Singh and Anil Kumar.

Magistrate draws flak for calling chiefs of 2 forces

New Delhi:A magistrate has drawn flak from a Delhi court for summoning the chiefs of Air Force and Army as defence witness in a cheque bounce case,saying it was done “mechanically” and “without applying mind”. District and Sessions Judge R K Gauba questioned the summoning of the chiefs of two services in a private cheque bounce case of an ex-IAF official when the witness to be called as defence evidence was an official or clerk.

Six liquor smugglers arrested in Greater Noida

Greater Noida:Six suspected liquor smugglers were arrested in separate raids and 300 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from their possession here,police said on Sunday.
