CBI to probe after sting traps six policemen seeking bribe

Police said they had requested the Home Ministry to the transfer the case to the CBI.

The Delhi Police on Tuesday suspended four police officers after they were caught on camera allegedly seeking bribe to settle cases.

Police said an FIR had been registered and the case transferred to the CBI.

The sting operation was conducted by a group of reporters from Hindi news channel AajTak.

The policemen suspended are SI Anil Kumar from Kalyanpuri police station, additional SHO (Govindpuri) Inspector Madanpal Bhati, Inspector R S Naruka posted at Pul Prahladpur, head constables Giri Raj Meena posted with the traffic department, Sohan

Veer posted with the Southeast district and Digambar Singh from Jaitpur police station.

Soon after the telecast of the programme, the Delhi Police issued a statement, thanking the channel for the sting and saying that they had registered a case against the policemen.

“Strict action will be taken against the erring policemen by placing them under suspension and registering of an FIR…,” a police statement said.

The video clip shows an inspector and a sub-inspector from two different police stations allegedly taking a bribe from an undercover reporter.

While one policeman is seen allegedly taking Rs 5,000 in bribe, the other is seen taking Rs 2,000 to settle cases and not register an FIR.

According to sources, one of the policeman was caught on camera allegedly seeking bribe for not issuing challan to a motorist for violating rules.
