(File Photo)At least eight guests in a wedding procession suffered injuries when four men driving a Wagon-R car allegedly ran over them after they were asked not to dance during a wedding procession in Ghaziabad on Tuesday night.
“We have confirmed that there are four men involved in the incident and we have arrested two of them,” said Prabhu Dayal, Station House Officer, Niwari, Ghaziabad.
Gyan Prakash Rai, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Modinagar, said two of the four accused have been arrested. Those arrested have been identified as Sagar Kumar, 23, and Pradeep Kumar, 22 – both residents of Meerut. Rai also said the statements of the injured and eyewitnesses have been recorded and a team has been formed to nab the absconders.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Ghaziabad’s Niwari area when two wedding ceremonies were being held at two wedding halls opposite each other.
“There were two wedding celebrations, one at the Eco farm house and the other at the Sehrawat farm house. Those at the Eco farm house had booked band players and the other one had booked DJ. The guests of the Eco farm started dancing to the DJ, which was objected to… A scuffle began and minutes later a group of men came and rammed those dancing at the wedding procession,” said Dayal.
Following the incident, a First Information Report was registered at Niwari police station on Wednesday evening based on the complaint of one Surendra Singh under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 191(2) (rioting), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 125(b) (acts endangering life and personal safety of others), 281 (rash and negligent driving endangering human life) and 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide).
“They at first intruded our wedding function and started dancing to the DJ music being played, we requested them to leave. Upon this, they picked up a fight and started abusing us. Later, four to five men from the gate-crasher group arrived in a speeding Wagon-R and ran over our guests and fled the spot,” said Singh.
