Three hurt as security guards rifle goes off in bank
Three persons sustained minor bullet injuries when the service rifle of a security guard of a government bank accidentally went off inside the bank on Friday morning. The police said the incident was reported at 10.40 am from a branch of the Punjab National Bank on Arya Samaj Marg at Karol Bagh. The security guard,Narang Singh,60,was adjusting the strap of his service rifle when it slipped and fell. The rifle went off on impact with the floor. An employee of an online trading company,K Kumar,30,sustained injuries on his leg after splinters from the bullet hit him. He and two other injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital,where they were discharged after first aid, a senior police officer said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central),Jaspal Singh said,It was just a case of accidental firing. We have not registered a case in the matter.
No more parking lots under green cover
The Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) on Friday told the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) that it cannot create more parking sites under green cover besides the nine sites where work is either on or has been awarded. The EPCA has directed the civic body not to award work for any other parking project under green cover until it inspects such parking sites and is satisfied with the way the parks have been restored.
High Court issues notice to school
The High Court on Friday issued a notice to Rohini-based Remal Public School seeking explanation for an accident that left a student permanently disabled. The petition filed in the court claimed Riya Gupta,a student of Class VIII,was left physically handicapped and permanently disabled after being asked to dive into the schools swimming pool that was not filled with enough water. Notices have also been sent to the schools two swimming coaches on a suit that claimed Rs 21 lakh in damages. The school will file its reply by May 5.
Man held for killing stepdaughter
A 32-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting and murdering his stepdaughter. Police officials said Sanjay Paswan,a resident of Sultanpuri,claimed he was having an illicit relationship with the deceased and was unhappy about her impending wedding. The body of the 19-year-old deceased,identified as Sangeeta,was found on February 16,the day of her wedding. Paswan,a rickshaw-puller from Oara in Bihars Nalanda district,was caught on Thursday from Sultanpuri where he was staying with another wife,a senior police official said.
Rekha,the mother of deceased,told the police that she suspected her second husband Paswan to be behind the incident. A senior police officer said Paswan told interrogators he raped and murdered Sangeeta on the night of February 15.
5 held for selling fake herbal products
A 28-year-old woman,an alleged member of the Indian Mujahideen and an accomplice of Aftab Ansari who was convicted in the American Centre attack,was arrested along with four African nationals for allegedly selling fake herbal products. Police officials said Nikita,who served over six years in prison before being released in 2008,was arrested from Jor Bagh market in South Delhi on Thursday. She will be interrogated in coordination with the intelligence agencies for the Pune terror attack as well,officials added.
Two children die in fire
Noida: Two girls were burnt to death in a fire that broke out in a shack on Friday night. Pushpa (6) and Pinki (4) died in the blaze which broke out in Noida Sector-49,the fire department officials said. Their parents were not home at the time of the incident,the officials added.
Student hangs self in hostel room
GHAZIABAD: A 19-year-old girl student of Vishweshraiya College of Engineering and Technology,located in Dadri,allegedly committed suicide on Thursday night in Raj Nagar area of Ghaziabad. Friends of the deceased,Pragati Singh,who hanged herself from a ceiling fan of her room with a dupatta,said she wanted to pursue BCom while her parents wanted her to study BTech. Her friends found her body inside her room on Thursday evening.
Two stuck between vehicles after collision
A rickshaw-puller and a tractor driver got stuck between a tractor and a truck for over an hour after three vehicles collided with each other. The incident was reported from North Delhis Gulabi Bagh area at 4 am on Friday morning. The police said a truck took an illegal U-turn at a traffic light and crashed into a tractor and a cycle-rickshaw. The tractor driver,Tinku (35),and the rickshaw-puller Wakeel Ahmad (20) got wedged between the two vehicles. They were rescued by the police and taken to a city hospital,where their condition is stated to be stable. The truck driver is absconding and a manhunt has been launched to arrest him,police said.
Motivational leader detained
A motivational guru was detained on Friday on the complaint of members at a session he was hosting at FICCI Auditorium. The police said as part of the session,P S Rathore,who claims to be a motivational leader,made the members,mostly students,walk on burning embers. Several students,however,suffered burns,following which an argument ensued. The police said they are investigating whether Rathore had permission to organise such an event at FICCI.
