Cab driver held for molesting minor: Police

Police recorded statements of the girl and her driver before the magistrate, under Section 164 of the CrPC.

Police said the accused is a resident of Jamia Nagar area.

He was arrested after the girl’s parents filed a complaint with police on Wednesday night.

“The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon. The girl was sitting in the front seat while her brother was in the back seat. She was waiting for other students when the accused molested her,” a police officer said.

The girl’s cab driver stopped the accused and threatened him. They later left the spot.

Police said when the girl reached home, her mother noticed a change in her behavior. Initially, she suspected that the girl was unwell. But later, the girl broke down and told her mother that she had been molested by the driver.

“The parents immediately approached police who registered a case under Section 354 (molestation) of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Defence Colony police station. The girl’s driver later informed police of the accused’s whereabouts. Police then arrested him,” an officer said.

Police said the cab in which the accused ferried children to a nursery school was his personal vehicle and not attached with the school. Police said during questioning, the accused confessed to having molested the girl. However, investigators suspect that he could be involved in more such incidents.

“The accused has been working as a driver for the past eight months. He had been stalking the girl for the past five days and tried to lure her several times,” a police officer said.
