A 41-year-old businessman dealing in garment stickers was robbed of Rs 25 lakh at gunpoint by two unidentified persons in East Delhis Geeta Colony area on Sunday morning, police said. The robbery took place just metres away from the Geeta Colony police station.
According to police,Gagan Kapoor, who runs his business in Gandhi Nagar on Subhash Road, was traveling on his Activa scooter and was to deliver the bag containing Rs 20 lakh cash and Rs 5 lakh worth demand drafts to a person.
He was about to reach the Geeta Colony police station when two men on a motorcycle intercepted him and pushed him off his scooter, said a senior police officer.
Before Kapoor could react, the accused persons pointed a gun and a knife at him and threatened him with dire consequences if he refused to part with his bag of cash, police said. Fearing for his life,Kapoor gave in and the accused fled with the bag.
Sources said that a policeman on patrol duty noticed the incident and tried to rush to the spot. However, his motorcycle did not start on time, because of which he was unable to chase the miscreants.
The victim informed us that the men were not wearing helmets. But one of the assailants had a handkerchief tied around his face, and therefore it was tough to identify him, said the officer.
Police suspect that the accused persons knew Kapoor and there was also reason to believe that perhaps they were following him knowing that he was carrying a huge amount of money on him.
