The department directed that all the All India Transport Permit (AITP) buses should pick up and drop passengers at only the three terminals.Delhi transport department has directed the traffic police to impound the defaulting buses that illegally pick and drop passengers travelling to neighbouring cities from non-designated points such as Akshardham, Majnu ka Tila, Red Fort, Sarai Kale Khan, Dhaula, Kuan, Peeragarhi and Mukarba Chowk, etc.
According to officials, these private buses cause huge traffic jams, especially during peak evening hours.
The special transport department in a circular asked the special Commissioner (Traffic) and DC (Enforcement) Transport Department to impound erring buses and submit a daily report.
The department also directed the managing director of the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) to ensure that all buses with a valid permit are allowed to park at the three inter-state bus terminals — Kashmere Gate, Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar.
The department also directed that all the All India Transport Permit (AITP) buses should pick up and drop passengers at only the three terminals. The AITP buses/Inter-state tourist buses/contract carriage shall only carry passengers with pre-booked tickets and shall maintain a list of passengers in either electronic/ physical form, including each passenger’s origin and destination, the circular stated.
The department further issued directions that battery-operated buses plying as AITP must adhere to the permit conditions.
According to the circular, the transport department and Delhi Traffic Police shall conduct regular checks of buses and check the list of passengers.
