Will deal sternly with guilty: CM
Amid allegations of corruption in several Commonwealth Games projects,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit categorically said that stern action will be taken against persons found involved in any irregularities. If there is corruption,we will find out who is responsible and take stern action against whoever is responsible… she said after unfurling the Tricolour during the Independence Day celebrations here. Dikshit, however, added that the October 3-14 event will be the finest in the history of the Games despite all the controversies.
Still no toilets near Games venues
With severe delays plaguing streetscaping works around CWG venues, authorities have been unable to concentrate on putting up toilet facilities in the areas. The city administration had issued contracts for putting up toilets, kiosks, information boards, iron chairs and benches on a BOT (build, operate, transfer) basis to four firms. However, sources say that they are yet to start work on the projects. Though the government had planned to install street furniture in areas across Delhi where streetscaping is being taken up,the plan was shelved due to time constrains. Instead,it was decided that the facilities should be installed around the CWG venues.
Govt to crack down on polluting units
Stepping up its efforts to ensure a clean environment during the Commonwealth Games here, the Delhi Government has decided to crack the whip on industrial units flouting prescribed air quality standards. About 200 air polluting units have been identified as potential sources of particulate emissions… said A K Ambasht, member secretary of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). We have directed unit owners to strictly maintain and regulate operation of the Emission Control Systems as per the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act. Otherwise,we will move for their closure, he said. With less than two months left for the event, the government no longer wants to let erring unit owners take their own time in bringing down pollution levels.
