Boy missing from Delhi children’s home traced after over two years

A 16-year-old boy, who went missing from an NGO-run children’s home in August 2022, has been traced by the Delhi Police Crime Branch. The boy, now 18 years old, was found at a house in Dakshinpuri, police said.

Despite extensive searches, no clues were found. The Delhi Police had announced a Rs 20,000 reward for any information leading to the boy’s whereabouts. The case would eventually turn cold before the Crime Branch decided to take a crack at it.

Additional CP (Crime Branch), Sanjay Sain said, “… The team was aware that the child is now an adult and could be anywhere in the city. The team searched for him at railway stations, bus stands, construction sites, restaurants, and other places.”

The breakthrough came when Constable Dharam Singh received a tip off on Wednesday that a young man matching the boy’s description has been seen working in a hotel. The team reached the spot and traced him to a house in Dakshinpuri.

During questioning, the boy revealed that he was found homeless in Kolkata and placed in a children’s home. He was then shifted to the Delhi home in 2018.

According to the police, the boy said that a family had claimed he was their missing child, but a biological test ruled out the match. In 2022, he and another boy left the home and separated. Afraid he might be punished for breaking the rules, he went into hiding, the police added.
