Blind Workers’ Union to stage rail roko over pay structure revision

The Blind Workers’ Union on Saturday threatened to stage a ‘rail roko’ late this month against the decision of the National Federation of the Blind’s to link pay with performance instead of a fixed pay structure at its disposable plate manufacturing unit in Mundka.

The Blind Workers’ Union (BWU) on Saturday threatened to stage a ‘rail roko’ late this month against the decision of the National Federation of the Blind’s (NFB) to link pay with performance instead of a fixed pay structure at its disposable plate manufacturing unit in Mundka. BWU members said many visually challenged workers at the Mundka and Faridabad units had resigned in protest.

The ‘rail roko’ decision was taken at a convention called ‘Problems and Prospects of Movement of Blind Community’ organised by the BWU at the Gandhi Peace Foundation on Saturday to review the current position and discuss the future course of action.

S K Rungta,Chairman,NFB,said,“We had been running into huge losses and there was a lot of wastage at these units. I gave them a target of 4,000 pieces per day but only three of them could meet this. So,we had to link their pay to performance. Moreover,we are not funded by the government. We need to take certain measures.”

“The unions are being very unreasonable. We are not going to be blackmailed anymore,” he added.
