BJP-led MCD set to okay projects,Congress objects

Even as the State Election Commission examines the alleged violations of the model code of conduct by the BJP,the MCD is set to sanction more projects at the next standing committee meeting.

Even as the State Election Commission (SEC) examines the alleged violations of the model code of conduct by the BJP,the MCD is set to sanction more projects at the next standing committee meeting. The meeting, scheduled for Monday, has proposals listed on its agenda for further approval.

The agenda has 13 new proposals, amounting to nearly Rs 50 lakh. But standing committee chairman,Yogendra Chandolia, said there will be no violation of the model code of conduct.

“The items that are listed in the agenda of the standing committee are not new proposals. They have already been passed in the ward committee meetings. Due to the delay in the completion of formalities, they could not be tabled in the earlier meeting.”

However,Opposition leaders criticised the BJP-led MCD for trying to sanction proposals at the last minute. “New proposals have been added to the agenda of the standing committee. Sanctioning of these is gross violation of the model code of conduct,” said Leader of Opposition,Jai Kishan Sharma.
