(PTI Photo/Manvender Vashist Lav)The BJP on Wednesday officially named Shalimar Bagh MLA Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. The announcement was made following a BJP legislature party meeting that concluded this evening.
Expressing her gratitude to the BJP’s top leadership and fellow MLAs, Gupta took to X to share her reaction.
“I express my heartfelt gratitude to the leadership for trusting me and entrusting me with the responsibility of Chief Minister. This trust and support have given me new energy and inspiration. I pledge to work with full honesty, integrity, and dedication for the welfare, empowerment, and overall development of every citizen of Delhi. I am fully committed to this important opportunity to take Delhi to new heights,” the post read.

Rekha Gupta‘s swearing-in ceremony along with other ministers of the cabinet will be held on February 20 at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.
Gupta, who is set to become the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi, is a RSS member and was part of the Sangh’s students’ wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The 50-year-old takes over from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi.
A lawyer by profession, Gupta entered electoral politics in 2007 when she won the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections from the North Pitampura ward.
The BJP returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, securing a clear majority with 44 out of 70 seats in the February 8 Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, New Delhi MLA Parvesh Verma will take on the role of Deputy Chief Minister, while Rohini MLA Vijender Gupta has been appointed as the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly.
