Based on the agony of migration, Marathi feature film Killa will premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, to be held between February 6 to 16. The film will be among 11 others selected from across the globe, making it the only Indian film in the Generation Kplus competition at the Berlinale. The two other Indian films to have ever been screened under the same category are Jabbar Patel’s Samna in1975 and Umesh Kulkarni’s Vihir in 2010.
In his directorial debut, 28-year-old Avinash Arun portrays the story of a young boy named Chinu — played by Archit Deodhar — who finds it difficult to adjust to his new surroundings where he is forced to move after his father’s death. Shot in the picturesque Konkan region, this coming-of-age tale will have a May release in India. “Moving to a new place can be traumatic, especially for children. The film shows a different perspective on migration,” says Arun.
Produced by Madhukar Musle, Ajay G Rai and Alan McAlex under the banner of Jar Pictures, Killa was also one of the five films selected by NFDC Film Bazaar’s Work-In-Progress lab last year Film Bazaar’s Work-In-Progress lab last year.
