Russian was the language of the day at Shahnaz Husain’s Beauty Academy that launched an unlikely batch of students — 52 budding beauty experts from Russia and its former states.

Largely a female contingent, most of the students were associated with Husain’s vast presence in the Russian market. A sprinkling comprised independent salon owners keen to learn the Ayurveda way to good health and flawless skin and hair.

Lampeeva Olga,37,from St Petersburg, for instance was attracted by the “bounty of natural cosmetics that the country offered.” Another student,Ljuda Oja,50,from Estonia, which declared Independence from Russia 15 years ago, added,“India is the land of natural beauty and home to Ayurveda. Dry skin and hair are the biggest problems in my country.”

The two-week training module provided her with an extensive knowledge of how to use oils and kitchen ingredients like potatoes and carrots to make beauty potions. “We return home with beauty tips from a beautiful land,” she concluded.
