A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court for killing his wife on the basis of deposition given by his seven-year-old son.

District Judge J R Aryan awarded life term to 35-year-old Rambir of Delhi for murdering his wife. She was found dead on the roof of a factory building in Jafrabad in 2010.

“Testimony of the child witness is found credible and acceptable. It is corroborated by the circumstance that the accused had come to the workshop premises in Jafrabad, with his wife and this child witness,on the night of August 31,2010. The woman was found murdered on its roof,” said the court.

The court gave credence to the statement of the child despite the argument by the counsel for Rambir that the boy had been “tutored” by his maternal uncle.

The child had testified that his father had killed his mother with a saria (iron rod) after a drunken argument with her over some money issue.

He told the court that his father was an alcoholic and used to quarrel with his mother frequently. The boy also told court that on the fateful day,Rambir had consumed liquor and when his mother asked for some money,he refused to give it to her.

The child added that his father was infuriated after his mother took out the money from his pocket in the morning and killed her with an iron rod. He said his father took him to another room after the incident.

The court held Rambir guilty and stated that the minor boy had been consistent in his statement, negating the allegation that he had deposed falsely.
