A Bangladeshi national was found hanging at his rented accommodation in Greater Noida’s Beta-2 on Sunday evening, police said. The deceased student has been identified as Sahriyar.

According to the police, they were alerted by the landlord, who said he had gone to check on him after he had not seen the student for over a day. “The body was found hanging from a ceiling fan. It has been sent for a post-mortem. No suicide note has been recovered,” said Greater Noida 1 Circle Officer Hemant Upadhyay.

The landlord told the investigators that Sahriyar had moved into the house with a woman, identified as Rupa, a resident of Bihar. The two had claimed that they were married and had taken a room on rent for Rs 8,000, police said. They had shifted on November 17.

Police said Rupa was last seen leaving the rented accommodation on November 21. “Since that evening, Sahriyar’s phone had been switched off. On Sunday, when we looked inside through the window, we found him hanging,” the landlord told the police.

Officers said that they are trying to find out the reason behind the death. “We will know the exact cause of death after the post-mortem. Further investigation is underway,” Upadhyay said.
