Badani begins new innings

Despite having been dismissed cheaply for 8,Hemang Badani did not betray the lethargic body language of frustration.

Despite having been dismissed cheaply for 8,Hemang Badani did not betray the lethargic body language of frustration. In fact he was proud of the fact that his new team,Haryana fielded superbly in their first encounter against Punjab, saving crucial runs to register an all important win in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy North Zone T-20 qualifiers.

“I feel every department is important in the game. A batsman cannot score every time but he can contribute to the team saving some runs on the field. It was our sheer commitment on the field that proved as a deciding factor in our win,” said the 33-year-old former India batsman who was known for his fielding prowess.

Ask him about his northern connection and Badani explains that he had an incomplete season playing for Rajasthan last year when he missed out on the longer version of domestic cricket. Badani in order to play a full season joined Haryana this year and has been training with the team.

But interestingly,a comeback to the Indian side is least thing on his mind. Being a senior in a young Haryana side,he says that he wants to perform well to take his team to the knock out stages. “I don’t have slightest hankering to represent the country. Every innings that I walk out to the middle,I concentrate fully on just that particular innings. I don’t pressurise myself that this inning might help me for my comeback. I just want to play good cricket,” said Badani.

Being an experienced campaigner of the sport,he is happy helping the juniors in the team. “During my stint in Rajasthan,I was helping players with whatever experience I have. The Haryana team has some good players and I make sure that I provide sufficient support to the team,” he added.

While players find difficulties in adapting to entirely different conditions, but more than the weather,it is the kind of wickets that disturbs him. Wickets in the north are on the slower side that forces him to change his normal style of stroke playing.

“As a Tamil Nadu player,we hardly face cold conditions. The wickets in South are conducive to batting and have bounce. But I find the wickets quite slow in North so that makes it difficult to play shots,h he explained.

Even though he missed out on contributing significantly to the score sheet, but Badani says he is looking forward to contributing further for Haryana in a mentor’s outfit.
