Parmar was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman inside UP Bhawan Even as Maharana Pratap Sena chief Rajyavardhan Singh Parmar, arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman inside UP Bhawan, was allegedly staying at a house meant for sitting and former MPs, Delhi Police said he was also illegally operating the organisation from the said flat.
Parmar was sent to 14-day judicial custody in the sexual harassment case by the Patiala House Court Saturday.
A senior police officer said: “We have so far not found any legal papers to show how he was occupying the house and could not ascertain the capacity in which he was living there… we have served him a notice to explain the same.”
Parmar, his wife and their two daughters are currently staying at the flat in Vithal Bhai Patel House, Rafi Marg.
The officer added that a probe has also been initiated into how Parmar was running the right-wing organisation from the house. “This comes under the category of a commercial activity… After Parmar’s arrest, his wife Sucheta has become the de facto head of the organisation and she will be questioned about the legality of running it,” added the officer.
One of Parmar’s family members, speaking to The Indian Express, claimed that Sucheta has been working as a “parliamentary associate” of Apna Dal (S) MP Pakauri Lal for the last few years and has been given the flat “on the basis of that”. The family member, however, was unable to provide any documents to support the claim.
Lal didn’t respond to calls and texts seeking comment.
A Lok Sabha official said the flats are usually allotted to MPs or their guests for a short duration on the MP’s recommendation. A Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs official said the allotments are done by the Lok Sabha Secretariat or the Rajya Sabha secretariat.
Parmar and his wife are also named in a cheating and misappropriation of funds case lodged by the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing in 2019, which alleges that a company, named Kamla Milk Jaivik Khad Limited, where Sucheta and Parmar were the directors, cheated its employees of Rs 40 lakh on the pretext of giving them a job.
