A 50-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Delhi Police shot himself with his service weapon at Kamraj Marg where he is deputed for the security of former Afghanistan president Najibullah’s family.

Police sources said Hira Chand was deputed for the security of Najibullah’s wife Fatana and her three daughters at 5,Kamraj Marg. He came for duty around 6 am and shot himself an hour later. “Hira Chand was with the other security personnel at the entrance of the house where he had a cup of tea and later went inside. After a few minutes, the personnel outside heard a shot and rushed inside to find Hira Chand’s body,” the police said. Fatana and her daughters are not in Delhi.

Officers said Hira Chand was promoted as ASI earlier this year. “We suspect he was not in good terms with one of his seniors in the Security Wing. He was earlier in the security of Buta Singh at Teen Murti Marg and got himself transferred here as a liaison officer due to issues with a colleague,” a police officer said.

Chand is survived by a daughter and two sons and stays in Vikas Puri Police Colony in West Delhi. One of his sons was recently recruited in the Delhi Police.
