A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged on Friday that his family is not being allowed to meet anyone.

“This is a psychological game that the Union government is playing with the elderly parents of an elected CM. Even the British would not have resorted to such shameful behaviour,” Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said.

Kejriwal was arrested on Friday night in connection with the Delhi excise policy case after he skipped the ninth summons issued to him by the central agency.

“Arrests have always happened in politics, even under British rule. But the humanity that even the British used to show, the minimum humanity that is considered in every country, has not been considered here. You have arrested Arvind ji, his family is at home. Basic humanity means that people of the party, his relatives… should be able to meet his family and express solidarity. Since yesterday, nobody has been allowed to meet his family,” Bharadwaj said on Friday.

AAP has also expressed the fear that Kejriwal’s security may be compromised. “The CM has Z-plus security and now he is in custody… It is being said that there is fear for his life. With a government that has arrested him without any evidence…there is fear for his life,” Delhi minister Atishi said.

Bhardwaj and Atishi were among those detained by the Delhi Police on Friday as AAP workers took to the streets to protest Kejriwal’s arrest.

Several Opposition leaders, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, have condemned Kejriwal’s arrest.
