Minister sends inspectors to hotel
A spat between Delhi’s Social Welfare and Labour minister Mangat Ram Singhal and the security staff of a five-star hotel in the city two days ago took a turn on Friday as the minister reportedly sent inspectors from eight government departments to conduct raids at the hotel. Sources said the raids conducted by teams from departments like Labour and Prevention of Food Adulteration were called off only after senior Congress leaders informed the CMO. The minister had reportedly entered into an argument with the staff of ITC Maurya on SP Marg over getting his vehicle checked at the entrance on Wednesday night. The hotel authorities had reportedly apologised to the minister on Thursday.

Vijender Gupta is BJP Delhi unit’s new chief
Vijender Gupta has been appointed the new president of the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party,sources said late on Friday. He replaces O P Kohli. A formal announcement by the party is expected on Saturday.

Auditor drowned at school: autopsy report
Greater Noida: The postmortem report of Ajay Sharma (35),the auditor whose body was found from the the swimming pool of Ryan International School on Thursday,indicated he had drowned,the police said. “Investigations are on,but it does not look like a case of foul play,” said SP (Rural) Surendra Kumar Verma. Sharma had come from Mumbai to audit the school’s accounts.

HC seeks report on Anganwadi centres
The Delhi High Court on Friday asked its Legal Aid Committee to appoint 10 lawyers to pay a surprise visit to at least 10 Anganwadi centres in the Capital and submit a report on their functioning by July 19. The order came following a submission by the Delhi government counsel about 20 Anganwadi centres claiming that they were best among the nearly 200 in the city.

Phase-out of tongas: MCD to file response
The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the MCD on its new policy to phase out tongas. The direction followed a writ petition filed by the Animal Welfare Board questioning the effectiveness of the policy. The petition stated that while the policy provides for rehabilitation of tonga owners,there is no provision for rehabilitation of horses,mules and ponies.

Six arrested for cow slaughter
Six persons were arrested on charges of cow slaughter on Friday. Asif (25),Yakub (24),Wasim (19),Kailash (20),Sita Ram (40) and Salim (30) were apprehended from Nangloi-Rani Khera Road in Khanjawala. They had come there to sell cow meat to UP traders,Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal said. Two pistols,instruments used to kill animals and cut the meat were recovered from them.

Two Nigerians arrested for credit card fraud
With the arrest of two Nigerian nationals,the South Delhi police claimed to have busted a gang involved in cheating by using forged credit cards at malls and luxury stores. Dare Aderibigbe and Kehinde Raheem were arrested while using fake credit cards at a store in DLF Emporio Mall. Both have no valid visa,police said. While they stole credit cards,their accomplice,Allaje,changed the electronic strip of the card. Allaje would then steal credit card data through internet and use it on electronic strip of the card.

Mushirul Hasan is new DG of National Archives
Former Vice-Chancellor Jamia Millia Islamia Mushirul Hasan was appointed the Director General of the National Archives of India on Friday. A History professor at Jamia,Mohammad Miyan,assumed charge as the V-C of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU),Hyderabad,on Friday.
