NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the MCD and four private firms after taking note of a plea challenging the award of tenders for collecting toll from commercial vehicles. The court was hearing a petition filed by Sahakar Global Ltd against the award of tender by the MCD to SMS Infrastructure Ltd for collecting toll from all commercial vehicles at 121 entry points across the Capital. It fixed the matter for final hearing to August 18.

NDMC school of gardening opens today

NEW DELHI: To teach gardeners to conserve and expand the green cover across the Capital,the NDMC will inaugurate its school of gardening on Wednesday. The school,situated near Patiala House Court,is spread over an area of five acres. Officials from various organisations will extend aid to educate the gardeners.

30 per cent increase in smart card sale

NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro registered a 30 per cent increase in passengers opting for smart cards on the very first day of Smart Card Week,which is being observed from May 9 to 15. According to official estimates,about 10,000 smart cards are usually sold at Metro stations every day. However,on Monday,DMRC registered a sale of 12,906 smart cards. New Delhi and Chandni Chowk Metro Stations recorded the highest sale of smart cards,at 637 and 609 cards respectively.

Two arrested for murder in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: Two persons have arrested in the Capital for allegedly committing a double murder in Chhapra,Bihar,police said. They were nabbed during a special combing operation conducted by the police for the forthcoming MCG polls. The two,identified as Prem Kumar and Om Prakash,are accused of murdering one Yogender and his daughter,Asha,on April 20,2008. The two said they had been working in a private company for over a year.
