Court orders filing of FIR against errant cops
Following a complaint lodged by a man in a court about being forcefully confined in the RK Puram police station for trying to lodge an FIR against the Station House Officer and other police officials for their alleged involvement in a corruption case,a Delhi court said on May 7 that an FIR must be registered. Metropolitan Magistrate S P S Laler also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the area to assign investigation to an officer of a rank higher than an SHO so that the probe was not unduly influenced. Munish Kumar Gaur had complained that he was detained at the RK Puram police station for nine hours on the intervening night of April 29 and 30 after he told the police he wanted to register a complaint against two traffic police personnel who had refused to penalise a private bus that had rammed into his car. When he went to the police station to lodge a complaint,the officials harassed him,Gaur claimed.
Sheila threat call: Accused granted bail
A Delhi court on Monday granted bail to Beer Singh,25,accused of calling the Police Control Room claiming Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s life was in danger. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja ordered release of the accused on furnishing a personal and surety bond of Rs 20,000 each. Singh was arrested on Sunday.
MPs laptop stolen from Chanakyapuri residence
A laptop was stolen from the South Avenue residence of Lok Sabha MP Rajen Gohain in Chanakyapuri area a few days ago. Police officials said they suspect the involvement of an insider and are probing the matter. An FIR was registered on May 6. Gohain said: It was a new laptop. The bag containing the laptop was intact in the almirah,while just the laptop was found to be missing. Gohain added that his children found out about the theft when they visited the house last week. The matter was then reported to the police.
Former principal arrested for murder,fraud
A former college principal wanted in murder and cheating cases was arrested from East Delhi on Sunday,the police said. Dr Pradyuman Singh,on the run for the last 12 years,was the principal of Budha Post Graduate College in UPs Kushi Nagar from 1989-1999,Additional Commissioner (Crime) Neeraj Thakur said. Dr Singh is accused of using unfair means to employ people during his tenure at the college and of misappropriating funds to the tune of Rs 50 lakh in collusion with another professor of the same college. He had also allegedly killed a colleague. DCP Thakur said the UP police have been informed about the arrest.
After tiff pregnant woman ends life
A 23-year-old pregnant woman allegedly committed suicide in her home in Southeast Delhi on Monday. The police said the woman,Preeti Singh,was four months pregnant. Her husband,Jitender Singh,saw Preetis body hanging from the ceiling fan in a room at their home in Sangam Vihar around 6.30 am,the police said. Jitender reportedly told the police that he had an argument with Preeti on Sunday night,after which she had gone to sleep in a separate room.
