Security guard killed
Unidentified assailants killed a 60-year-old man who worked as a security guard at a tobacco factory in Sonia Vihar,Northeast Delhi on Tuesday. Police identified the victim as Sarnam Singh. Robbery was the reason behind the incident as Rs 50,000 in cash is missing from the factory. The money was to be distributed as salary among the factory employees by manager Shiv Nandan, a senior police officer said. Police suspect the involvement of an insider and are questioning workers who were on night duty,the officer added.
Fire at Bawana slum: 2 dead
Two persons were charred to death while another suffered injuries when a fire broke out in a slum cluster in Outer Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday,Fire department officials said. Police said the blaze was reported from Shabda JJ colony in Bawana at 00.50 am. Seven fire tenders were sent to the spot to douse the blaze. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. In another incident,a fire broke out at a shoe factory in Mongolpuri Industrial area in West Delhi on Tuesday night.
Woman stabs husband
A 48-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her husband after discovering he was having an extra-marital affair,the police said. The incident was reported from Greater Kailash in Southeast Delhi on Monday. The police said the couple had an argument after the accused,Sunita,saw her husband Pratap with another woman. She sought an explanation from him. In a fit of rage later,she stabbed him, a police officer said. While Pratap is said to be recuperating at a nearby hospital,Sunita has been arrested.
HC stays work on Gurgaon drain
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed digging by M/s DLF for the construction of stormwater drain in Gurgaon till further orders. The stay was imposed by a Division Bench headed by Justice M M Kumar over a petition filed by Ajay Kumar,a resident of Gurgaon. The petitioner alleged the company is illegally digging his land measuring 2.14 acres for the construction of the stormwater drain. The court directed the Haryana government to demarcate the land and has made it clear that till the demarcation is over no digging work should be allowed.
ACB officer arrested for graft
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested an officer of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. CBI sources said the accused had taken money to settle the case against a Delhi Police inspector who was also arrested a few months ago by the ACB in a graft case. Sources said the officer,Inspector Dalip Kaushik,was investigating against Roshan Lal,the then SHO of Kalyanpuri police station. Kaushik had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from Lals family to ease charges.
Fire at Nirman Bhavan
A fire broke out on the seventh floor of Nirman Bhavan housing several Central government ministries on Wednesday. The fire broke out in a cable inside a room on the floor around 6.20 pm,fire brigade officials said. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. A short circuit is said to be the cause of fire.
New oxygen system at hospital
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has introduced a new system to ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply for critically-ill patients at Hindu Rao Hospital in North Delhi. MCD Commissioner K S Mehra inaugurated the liquefied oxygen supply system on Wednesday. A physiotherapy exhibition on the diseases like hypertension,diabetes,joint pains and stress was also inaugurated at the hospital.
Parking: HC seeks govt response
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought replies from the government and civic authorities for allegedly charging exorbitant parking charges from the public after assurances that the charge would not exceed Rs 10. The court has directed MCD,NDMC and DDA to file their respective policies and parking rates charged along with response to the petition by April 21.
Rs 49 lakh robbed from trader
Three men robbed a trader of Rs 49 lakh in Okhla Industrial area,Phase I,on Wednesday at gunpoint. Exporter Saudan Singh had withdrawn the sum from a bank in Greater Kailash on Wednesday afternoon when three men on two bikes started following his car. They then fired in the air and robbed the money. A case has been registered.
BSF camp on World Health Day
Wives and other family members of Border Security Force personnel got a free health checkup at a special camp organised by the BSF Wives Welfare Association (BWWA) on the occasion of the World Health Day today. Nearly 800 women got themselves examined for diseases illnesses like thyroid,hypertension,anemia and breast cancer.
